Ocean Innovations Research Intern
Overall Function
Ocean Innovation research interns carry out research in support of the mission of EDF's Oceans Program: to reform fisheries both domestically and globally with incentive-based management and to protect ocean habitats, ecosystems, and wildlife. Research is directed both toward supporting current activities, which focus on setting sustainable catch limits and implementing catch share management systems, and on emerging issues. Current topics include: data poor fish stock assessment; managing for ocean ecosystem resilience; identifying thresholds between desirable and undesirable ocean ecosystem states; ecomarkets to solve market failures that are degrading coastal ecosystems and generate revenues to offset costs associated with marine conservation; understanding causes of fishery declines in Cuba.
