Job Accountabilities:

A graduate student researcher at SolarWorld learns from experienced staff members while supporting many different experiments, production activities, and development projects.
Primary responsibilities for this position include the following:
•Interact with other members of the R&D team to provide support for substrate, device and laminate production.
•Collaborate with process engineering groups to troubleshoot process deviations and introduce new technology packages.
•Monitor experimental materials throughout elements of the production process, collect data, characterize results and prepare technical reports.
•Assist in developing new characterization tools to quantify relevant variables and apply statistical analysis to obtained results.
•Perform calibration and maintenance of sensitive diagnostic equipment, ensuring compliance to traceable standards.
•Consistently work on abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business.
•Deploy creative and effective solutions aimed at investigating material properties governing solar substrate performance.
•Other duties as assigned.

In addition to having a genuine scientific interest in the development and manufacturing of silicon solar cells, the successful candidate will possess the following combination of experience, knowledge, and skills:
Education:
•A bachelors degree (or currently enrolled in a program) in engineering (chemical, mechanical, electrical) or in applied science (chemistry, physics, mathematics) or in a related field.
•A current (or recent) graduate student enrolled in engineering or scientific disciplines is preferred.
Experience:
•Familiarity with semiconductor silicon processing, characterization methods, and basic circuit design.
•Demonstrated knowledge of problem solving & analysis tools including FMEA, SPC, DOE, and Six Sigma
•Proficiency in MS Office tools including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Visio.
•Experience with MS Project a plus.
Skills:
•Effective interpersonal/team work skills (able to collaborate within all levels of the organization).
•Strong written and verbal communications skills (technical writing and delivering presentations).
•Ability to achieve objectives by working in and with cross-functional and multi-cultural teams.
•Ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical and chemical systems, resulting in documentation and dissemination of solutions
•Must also be able to demonstrate the ability to efficiently execute tasks in a timely manner as well as creatively approach new technical challenges.
