The Professional Science Master’s Program offers a number of benefits for both students and industry partners. Internships give students “real world” challenges in a work environment and helps them learn what to expect when they enter the work force. The networking opportunity that the program provides to students is another aspect of the program that can be very important as their careers develop. Industry partners get to infuse the enthusiasm from intelligent students into the challenges they face on a daily basis. This can give project mentors new insights, fresh perspectives, and increased energy. The PSM program also allows potential employers to pre-view prospective new employees and see if they are a good “fit” for their organization. Finding and retaining employees with the desired skills can be a difficult task, and this program allows a potential employer to stay in touch with available professionals. My personal education included an internship, visits from industry professionals, a professional practices seminar, and a master’s degree all of which have served me very well in my career. The PSM program provides what were some of the most important elements of my education to students in a cohesive manner that gives them an additional edge when they enter the workforce and advance in their careers.
