Internship Coordinator Resigns

It is with sadness that we announce the resignation of Nichole Martin, who has been serving as the PSM Internship Coordinator since April 2011. She is leaving this part-time position to accept a full-time position elsewhere. Nichole’s task was to contact potential PSM employers to promote these graduate programs, create new university-industry linkages, and identify internship and employment opportunities for PSM students in the state.

Industry involvement is crucial to PSM program success. Employers participate on advisory councils, serve as mentors, sponsor educational projects, and provide internships and employment opportunities. Students are responsible for identifying and securing their internship projects, which are 3 to 6 months in duration and conducted off-campus. While faculty advisors provide feedback on and approve internship proposals, their ability to network among a variety of organizations to facilitate internship placement is limited.

During her short time with us, Nichole did a tremendous job assisting students in securing internships and increasing employer interest and involvement in Oregon’s PSM programs. “I have really enjoyed reaching out to many of you who have been developing PSM programs and supporting your work. Nurturing existing and establishing new relationships with employer groups on behalf of PSM programs has been a rewarding experience for me. This position allowed me to provide one-on-one attention to students to meet their internship and professional development needs as well as meet the employment needs of organizations,” said Nichole. She will be missed!

The Oregon PSM Program hopes to re-establish a full-time Internship Coordinator position in the future. In the meantime, students looking for internship opportunities should check our online employment bulletin, which will be updated regularly. Any questions regarding PSM internships should be directed to Dr. Ursula Bechert at Oregon State University.
